The only way to get to the island of Madeira is obviously by air into Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport (FNC) near Funchal. From the airport, it is a very scenic drive to the southwest coast to Jardim do Mar and will take about 50-60 mins. The most convenient way, therefore highly recommended, would be by renting a car at the airport for that kind of freedom to explore at one’s own time and time and time again, the incredibly diverse, mountainous landscapes on the island.

For the people who do not want to drive themselves, it is highly recommended to pre-book private airport transfers. A chauffeur will wait for you and drive you to the village directly. Of course, taxis are available from the airport to the village, but this will prove much costlier. One should preferably finalize the fare before entering into such a long drive.

While it is doable to take public transport, it’s pretty inconvenient, and it’ll take a much longer time. You would have to first take the Aerobus from the airport to the central bus terminal in Funchal. From there, you would have to find the right regional bus service which operates to Jardim do Mar (run by company Rodoeste). These services run rarely and the journey may take over three hours with the changes. For comfort and an effective arrival, rental car or pre-booked transfer is highly recommended.
